KIRBY MISPERTON, or KIRBY-OVER-CARR, is a township, parish and village, 4 miles south from Pickering, 8 miles north-by-west from Malton, and 9 north-west (sic) from Kirby Moorside, in the North Riding, Pickering Lyth west wapentake, Pickering union, Cleveland archdeaconry, and York archbishopric. The church of St. Lawrence is a plain building, with fragments of a more ancient edifice inserted in its walls; it has a nave, aisles, chancel and a tower, also a fine octagonal font. The living is a rectory worth £960 yearly, with residence, and about 120 acres of glebe land, in the gift of Lord Feversham; the Rev. C. J. Sympson is the incumbent. The Wesleyans meet at a private house. There is a National school for boys and girls, and a Sunday school is held in the schoolroom. The population of the township, in 1851, was 221; and the acreage is 1,789. The soil is loamy, the subsoil clay. Capt. Legard is lord of the manor, and lives at Misperton Hall. The chief landowners are, the lord of the manor, the Hon. And Rev. A. Duncombe, and Mr. Matthew Cordukes. The chief crops are wheat, barley and oats; the rotation is, fallow, wheat, seeds and oats, and there is a moderate extent of grass land. There are a few small charities. Alma House, 1 mile, and Low Barn, 1 mile, are places here.

GREAT and LITTLE BARUGH, or BARFF, or BARUGHS AMBO are townships of Kirby Misperton parish, in the North Riding. Great Barugh is 7 miles south-west of Pickering, 8 north-west of Malton, and 6 south-east of Kirby Moorside. Little Barugh is 1 mile north-east of Great Barugh, 6 south-west from Pickering, 8 north-west from Malton, and 8 from Kirby Moorside; both townships are in the Pickering Lyth west wapentake, and Pickering union. There is a chapel for Wesleyans in Little Barugh; where also a Sunday school is held. The population of the united townships, in 1851, was 306; and the acreage is 1,433. The soil is principally clayey, with a subsoil of strong clay, producing crops of wheat, oats and barley. Richard Hodgson, Esq., is lord of the manor.

GREAT HABTON is a township and village in Kirby Misperton parish, 7 miles south-by-west from Pickering, and 2½ miles north from Amotherby station, in the North Riding, Pickering Lyth west wapentake, and Malton union. There are chapels for Wesleyans; a school for boys and girls, and a Sunday school is held in the schoolroom. The population, in 1851, was 181; and the acreage is 1,700. The soil is rich and sandy, the subsoil clay and sand. Mrs. Pickering is the lady of the manor. The chief landowners are Mrs. Pickering, Thomas Brodwick, Henry James Lesley, and Thomas Mitchell, Esqrs. The chief crops are turnips, wheat, oats, and grass.

LITTLE HABTON is a township of Kirby, 2 miles north from Amotherby, and 5 miles from Malton, in the Pickering Lyth west, and Malton union. The population, in 1851, was 58; and the acreage is 454. The soil is rich and sandy, mixed with clay; the subsoil sand and clay. Mrs. Pickering is lady of the manor. The principle landowners are Lady Headley and Abraham Farrer, Esq. The chief crops are wheat and oats. RYTON is a township of Kirby Misperton parish, and is situated on the river Rye, 7 miles from Pickering, and 5 north from Malton, in the North Riding, Pickering Lyth west wapentake, and Malton union The population, in 1851, was 227; and the acreage is 2,228. The soil is loamy, clayey, and sandy; the subsoil is loam and clay. Thomas Barstow, Esq., is lord of the manor. The chief landowners are Sir George Wombwell and the lord of the manor. The crops are wheat and oats.
